Stop and Go For Two World Famous BBQ Recipes in Richmond KY

When you live in the South, you grow up eating BBQ.
You learn pretty quick that people have their favorite recipes passed down through the family or invent new ones that are fabulous.
Summer weekends at festivals have backyard chefs competing for trophies and bragging rights of whose sauce reigns supreme!
Growing up in Madison County, Kentucky, I can remember my parents taking me to some wonderful BBQ joints in the area and Mom has a great recipe that I still use.
Over time I have traveled around and out of state to be able to taste some wonderful Bar-B-Q. Maybe, I have become a fan of BBQ after lifetime of tasting all the varieties. Wet, dry, hot, mild, spicy, exotic, but mainly the top-secret Southern BBQ sauce.
There's something down home about Bar-B-Q. It's comforting and filling. No wonder there are so many people that absolutely love it and have cook offs to prove how good the recipe might be.
The other day, I finally made it to the Stop and Go on Water Street in Richmond, Kentucky. I had heard for years that the Bar-B-Q of Robert Miller and Russell Cantrell was legendary.
What I didn't know beforehand, was that the famous sauce was actually two separate recipes.
Robert's sauce is used on chicken wings and Russell's sauce is for beef brisket, pulled pork & ribs.
As I walked inside the diner, I was warmly greeted at the counter by Christine Chadwell, cashier.
Both owners, Russell and Robert were busy cooking but you could easily tell they were the heartbeat of the Stop and Go, winners of the 2009 Minority Business of the Year from The Chamber of Commerce.
As I settled in to do a taste test, I noticed how busy the place was. There were three patrons at the counter but lots of folks would stop to pick up food...then go!

My tasty review included BBQ beef brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken wings, cole slaw, potato salad and baked beans.
Russell uses his secret recipe on the ribs, pulled pork and brisket. It was my first time to eat beef brisket and he knew I was going to love it!
The pulled pork, brisket and ribs had just the right amount of sauce and flavor after marinating overnight and smoked up to 10 hours over hickory, apple and pecan wood before grilling. It was clearly some of the best BBQ I have ever tasted.

Next up was Robert's chicken wings in his secret sauce. Amazing taste and the wings would surely be something to disappear first off the table at a party.
By now it was hard to pick a favorite. Robert also prepares the baked beans and gives them some extra seasonings.
The cole slaw was creamy and had just the right ingredients. The menu also includes a fish sandwich and he does the special breading.
Christine's potato salad was heavenly and just the perfect blend.
There's something for everyone on the menu even hamburgers.
It's plain to see that the Stop and Go is a well maintained diner that has all the perfect ingredients of great BBQ, happy atmosphere and a down home charm. They do catering too!
Give Russell or Robert a call at 859-353-5451 or see them in action at 115 East Water Street in Richmond, KY.

I love that kind of barbecue. I used to do briscuits on my barbecue, where they would cook all day. They were great but I was younger back then.
Lizette--Looks like a very tasty place to eat. Very nice write up! :)
Lizette, great post for Localism. Sounds like a great place, in fact just reading this post has made me hungry for some BBQ!
Nice job on this post.
Hi Lizette,
Oh.. how I would love a Southern BBQ place here!! Sounds like you had a wonderful meal!! Lucky you.
Steven - You and Nutsy should do more BBQ grilling out. It sure is an all day event.
Teri - It really is! I'll take you there if you come visit!
Mike - It made me hungry too. I finished this story and dropped off a copy. Of course I had to stop and go with more BBQ! Yum!
Trace - One of these days you might have to come down here and try this out.
Hush, hush, hush.... IF you only knew how much I want a Western Ky Bar b que. Euleen son Neuton opened up a Restuarant in Frankfort, and it was soooooooooo successful. He bar b qued like in Paducah. Oh my....
I've only hinted a hundred times for my brother to send me a shoulder. Guess I should just order one.
Girl, now you have gone and done it, I have never had que for breakfast but I am now drooling and surprised that my computer hasn't done a short circuit on me. All I can say is WOW what a localism report!!!!
Mmmmm, I'm hungry!
I LOVE BBQ! I'll have to visit the Blue Grass state now. Thanks Lizette . . . I LOVED pulled pork and briskett! I'm hungry . . . I think I just gained 5 lbs. from your blog post!!
sorry that was just me wiping the drool off my keyboard. KC BBQ, thanks now I know whats for dinner.
This is too funny. Good job, girl. Now...how come you're an ActiveRainerMaker and not me, me me?
Lizette, I love pulled pork. This place sounds wonderful. If ever in Kentucky I'll have to find the spot and stop. Southern cooking is the best. No corn bread? Here's to good eats.
Lizette... Not mcuh better than some good "Q"... and this sounds great! I'll have to put it on my list to visit someday.
When you have the right sauce...you have it all...mmmmm...and the sides are the perfect compliment ....now I can think of nothing else gotta take those ribs out of the freezer...
We are ready to come for a visit. Do you have an extra bedroom?
Thanks for the post. It is always fun to experience local favorites.
Hi Lizette -- This made me very hungry! :-) When my family and I went to Lexington, we had our first Hot Brown -- While I can imagine it was artery clogging, we didn't care and ate so many of them we about popped!
Hi Lezette, Is there anything better than great BBQ ? I've had many different styles and never found one I didn't like ! You're making me hungry here !!!
Missy - I know the feeling. There's nothing like the BBQ around here. Terry told me about the family secret recipe. the brick grill where they smoked the meat is in the backyard of Eulene's house. She didn't disclose the recipe. :~(
Don - It's good to eat ANYTIME!
Jason - I understand.
Carla - Come on down here...I gained 5 pounds just doing the research(tasting) for the story!
Michael - KC is only a pacifier for the real thang here.
Geno - You get to share the limelight too! Awesome! Rockstar Yankee!
Lisa - You know I didn't even miss that there was no cornbread.
Bill - You need to put the Stop and Go on your "to do" list.
Sally & David - That's how it's done. Get to work on those ribs.
Roy - I do! Come on down and check this place out!
Chris - Now the Hot Brown is another story I might have to write. It's legendary here.
Bill - There are many good or great ones to try.
You are killing me! Let's work a deal, I will sent money and you send me BBQ ribs!
Sounds great. I was born in KY and still have family there even though I grew up here in Florida.
Every year when we go back we go to Knoth's Barbeque in Kuttawa between Ky. Lake and Lake Barkley. We always freeze a few pounds to bring back to Florida with us...
Mark - Call up Robert and Russell and see if they can put some on dry ice and ship them to you. Tell them you read all about it online. I bet they would send it.
Robin - I've heard of Knoth's BBQ. You know this stuff is the real deal then. Kentucky BBQ is legendary!
Thanks for the fun post today. Yes I would think this would be good for Localism. Hmmm....maybe I'll try that sometime. Anyway....We need some really good BBQ place here in seacoast NH.

Why, oh why, Lizette, do I stop by and read your blog when I haven't eaten yet? This is just heavenly and those food pictures look so tasty. I am blaming YOU for making me run off to the kitchen immediately. By the way, you should KNOW I love BBQ of all kinds! Texas boy you know. Now a hungry one LOL.
Wow...you're making me hungry; and I just had supper. I always enjoy a good BBQ. Hope this place gets lots of business from this post. Great job! Thanks for sharing this with your friends on Fraiche Aire!
Sounds awesome. Don't you just love living in the South? I do.
Great localism post..makes me hungry for some good old BBQ.......
yummmm, yum, yummmmmy ... that looks and sounds FABULOUS!
Lizette--makes my mouth water. If you're ever down in Texas, you should try Kreutz's BBQ in Lockhart, TX (a couple hours from where I am in League City outside of Houston)--can't beat it as far as I'm concerned, but be prepared to eat with your hands.
Oh wow and yum, yum. Sounds like great barbecue goods -- I love chicken wings (my favorite part of the chicken and actually I love all chicken parts, but especially the wings and Robert's sound great!)
Have you visited NC (Western Part!)? You'll find some GREAT barbecue joints up/over/whatever this way. Tryon and Selby are great. For just at home I do the pulled pork -- high on cholestrol, but, oh sooooo good to the taste buds.
Take care,
Sue of Robin and Sue
Liz,
You are a food critic extraordinaire congratulations on the feature.
I couldn't sleep so I woke up very early to go through email. Now I've got a massive craving for Beef Brisket at 5:10 a.m.
Now you've done it! I'm off my diet again - and very hungry. Thanks for the post.
WOW, I wnat it, all of it, and it is an all day event right? LOL, I would stay all day. This really sounds great. I need to map this out and see how long the ride from Indy would be. LOL, great post as usual.
Its good to see you here, I hope your doing great!
Wow! Now my BBQ post has made everyone hungry!
Maybe we can get Robert and Russell at the the Stop and Go ship it out to you. Give them a call today!
