Kentucky is still without power in many areas.
Kentucky Utilities estimates that 110,000 customers are without power and it might take up to 2 weeks to restore the lines. That is just one power company. There are many others.
Strange that where I live in Richmond, my subdivision has underground utilities, the street behind me and the one in front have power.
My street sits there eerily dark and forgotten. It's still that way all over town. Some businesses are open...some are not.
You don't know how bad you miss your home, till you have to leave it.
Yesterday, I stopped by to check on things at my house and as I was putting the key in the lock I had the fleeting thought of the Hurricane Katrina survivors.
Did they feel strange when they went back to check on their homes? Did they wonder what had been damaged? What could be saved?I had a deep sadness that I couldn't stay where all my things were.
I have left the water dripping in case the pipes might freeze and I took out much of what was in the refrigerator. Now that it is a disaster, all my frozen food will need replacing.
Even though it was cold inside...I spent a little time to straighten up the rooms that I had left in disarray as I grabbed this and that for a fast exit out while I still had a ride to a warm house. The roads were getting treacherous on Tuesday and I was thankful for friends that would take the time to come get me and my dog.
I had no idea that on Sunday my house would still be without power.
I always try to find the silver lining in what is happening to me. This one has given me the chance to spend quality time with my Mom that is 78 years old.
I had been so busy lately studying and passing my broker's exam that I had no time to visit with her or take her on an outing. Now that I have to stop everything, I can see into how she gets through her day and how I can help her more. She really is remarkable and energetic. I will always cherish this time alone with her.
She said last night that I spend too much time on the computer! I laughed...but she doesn't know the half of it! I was trying not to spend as much time as usual.
I guess my blog has become a bit of my diary since I am homeless for the moment. Thanks for listening!

Lizette--I saw this story on the news last night and wondered about you. Glad to hear you and Chanel are safe and warm at your mom's house! Snowdays have been called inclimate weather days at the schools in many areas of MN and they always provide a time to reconnect with your family as what was planned, school & work, is cancelled so there is no excuse for not spending time with those you love...Stay safe and warm. Hope you are back to your home soon!
Lizette - I cannot imagine what you're going through!! You sound like a real firecracker and this experience will give you plenty to write about. Hope things turn around for you guys soon.
Lizette,
Driving yesterday and heard that on the news. First thing I thought of was you. Funny how AR connects us. If something happened in Tn I would think of Michael Thornton.
Teri - This is the worst I have ever seen in Kentucky other than the tornado that took my house back in 1974(now that was horrible).
Alyce - I can't wait for the electric to get to my house. It really makes one appreciate the little things.
Steven - I'm the same way when I think of Washington...I think of you! LOL
Lizette,
I was thinking about you this morning when I was listening to the news and what they were saying about KY. and all of the power that is out all across the state. I hope and pray that you will be back into your home soon.
So strange, I was just thinking I need to call you and see if you had power, and then I read your blog. This is just unreal to think about. I don't know how you are making it! It shows me how bad things must really be there, you are not out in the boonies, you should have power already.
Love you guys, stay safe.
I haven't been a very good Subscriber, but something today made me click on your name, and I am so glad I did......First let me say congratulations on passing the Broker's exam :) That's wonderful. But unfortunately being without power this long isn't. I remember at Christmas when a few of our AR friends in New Hampshire were without power for 8 days....and yours they said on the CA news would be sometime in the middle of February.....not good.
Anyway, I hope all works out for you........
Don - I really am starting to miss being there. My home office is there as well.
Connie - I know you would be the same way about your house. We are lumping along as best we can living out of a suitcase. Hope all is well for you are your Dad.
Kathy - Thanks for stopping by my blog. This month has really been one of challenges for sure. At least I'm not the only one in this boat without power. I'm doing the best I can in a bad situation.
Lizette - I have been hearing about all of the people in KY that are without power. I'm glad that the storm didnot hit us full force. I am glad that you had someplace warm to go, but it is still hard to not be able to be in your own home. I hope your power is restored soon.
Although it is terrible that you were hit so hard, I am glad that you have gotten to spend so much time with your mother. Every dark cloud truly does have a silver lining. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully things will get back to normal soon.
Pam - It was so hard to deal with normal life and work while living at someone else's home. It's an out of body experience.
Dawn - Good thing that Mom and I are like sisters anyway. She's always there for me.
