How Much Did You Spend On Black Friday? Big Bucks or Zero Bucks?
I almost felt guilty yesterday. I spent the day doing laundry, emailing, cleaning the garage and big finish....LISTED a HOUSE! A very productive day.
I knew a few friends that went shopping for the Black Friday bargains. For the past couple of weeks I have posted a link in my newsletter to find all the deals that would be on that day.
Still....I tried not to look. I've been on a trim the fat budget and I know if I go out to shop, I will just buy things for myself.
Later, I will wonder why I didn't buy a few Christmas gifts. I do have a 3 day rule on buying items. (Wait 3 days to see if I really am dying to own it). Usually, the urge to buy fades as I see I don't really need it.
Today, I heard about the temporary Walmart employee that was trampled to death by shoppers.
Is anything to buy worth this? Why would anyone think that in scrambling for a deal it was OK to step on someone in the floor that is clearly getting injured?? Come on people...where is your brain?
According to CNNmoney.com they are predicting that the sales will fade and better deals might be later.
How much did you spend yesterday? What did you buy?

Lizette - $36.88, went to a movie, had popcorn and drinks, then out for pizza for dinner. I heard about that unfortunate incident at Wal-Mart.

Mike - A movie would be a good thing to enjoy yesterday! Good for you.
Carolyn - Thanks 4 the feature!
Lizette, you are very welcome. Enjoy your weekend, sweetie. Love, C. :-)
We spent zero on purchases. We went to supper and then to hear Christmas carols at a lighting celebration.
Lizette - Christmas Presents Bought, Zero Dollars - Gas Cost To Stat Home, Zero Dollars, Sleeping Inn: Priceless!
Leslie - Sounds like you did the right thing!
Debbie - That is the idea I would like. My dog won't let me sleep in though.
We bought a few clothes for our kids, and a couple of toys, but we weren't out in the crowds. We did everything in the afternoon.
We spent the day at home! Deck the Halls! and made cookies & fudge. It was very nice, and a well-needed change of pace.
Congrats on the listing!!!
0 Dollars. I had a client come into the office and sign Addendums on his purchase and received another REO listing assignment. I prefer making money as opposed to spending money.
Jason - That's the way to go. Who wants to wait it line with the crazy people?
Angela - I love fudge! I'd stay home for that too!
Cameron - The plan on Black Friday should be to make $$$$. Good for you!
Lizette: Like you I spent the day around home, taking the items we no longer use and putting them in boxes to donate. I have never shopped on Black Friday, there is nothing that I absolutely have to have to fight the crowds. I spent ZERO.
Dona - You probably felt good boxing up all that stuff. I've got some to work on too.
Lizzette, I love the new photo! Way cool! :) This creation of "Black Friday" is really a new event in the last decade. I have never seen something so ridiculous in my life. "NADA" is my answer.
I am not a big shopper and since I don't like crowds, I stayed away from the mall. To me shopping in frantic conditions it is not worth the savings. I enjoyed the day at home with my family and friends.
Congratulations on your listing!
Jim - I knew I could count on you to not go shopping! Really, I love to shop... but with the unstable market I want to hold on to my money in case of emergencies. I would buy too many things!
Lourdes - I don't think it is fun either. I usually stay out of the malls all through Christmas.
Lizette - no way would you catch me at the mall. Hanging around shopping is no fun (unless I do some power shopping by myself) and crowds are worse. Besides, I think there will be better deals as the shopping season progresses......
Congrats on your listing and Happy Holidays!
Connie - Thanks! I like to power shop when I have time... but on a leisurely pace. I agree that there may be better deals later.
Lizette, I'm just not a shopper. When I go out it is like I'm on a mission. I'm not a morning person either so to get up in the middle of the night and go shopping I DON'T THINK SO!!
Marchel - Can you imagine standing there all night in the cold, fighting for a place in line! Then you still may not get the item you came for. Crazy!
Congrats on your house listing!
Tami - Thanks! I can't wait to get it on the MLS!
This today on Twitter:
I believe there is a Hell...
There are many rooms...
in one you are Christmas shopping for an eternity!
Lizette, I spent a big fat ZERO. Stayed home and played Life with the grandkids...it was fun.

Conserving money is a smart thing especially when we have to consider shelter, food, and health. When the money returns, then I spend.
I always (quietly) marvel at the wisdom of those people who got in line at midnight to try for something they may not get anyway.
In a past life, I worked at big malls in Texas. It never ceased to amaze me how willing people were to be in large crowds fighting, pushing and shoving over insignificant items.
I spent the day upgrading my website. While the main page has been bouncing between 3/10 and 4/10 on Google, I found that my Kentucky Real Estate Agent Links page has a 2/10 all by itself. Wanna exchange links?
I can't imagine any deal that is worth getting up at 4:00 am for much less spend the night in a parking lot or trample someone to death over it! I did some running around but just bought a few things for my son's birthday. It is Wednesday so I have to do it sometime!
Hi Lizette - I didn't venture out on Black Friday lol I hate crowds and the insanity of this day. However, I must say my daughters did go out in search of some great deals. They didn't get all they wanted but they did come back with a few things on their lists.
I didn't brave the Black Friday sales. On Wednesday evening when I was at Best Buy, there were two families that were setting up camp. Apparently they were planning on spending Thanksgiving in line. I'll admit that I did spend one night last year camped out in front of Target waiting for a Wii with the kids. It was quite an adventure and definitely a memory builder, but once was enough for me.
I traditionally put up my Christmas tree on the Friday after Thanksgiving - have for many years now. Gives me time to unwind from trying to help cook a decent meal on Thanksgiving. And the stores will still be standing later on, promise! It definitely is not worth it to me to face the malls, but I will hit a few local shops now and then on that Friday. And after work during the week it really great, less folks in town here.
