Grandma's Lemon Muffins
I had on my mind all week that I wanted to bake some of my Great-grandmother's lemon muffins for old times sake. I used to sneak into her kitchen on Thanksgiving and swipe a few before dinner. They were fabulous!
How often do you buy buttermilk? I only need a cup but it's not sold in a small amount. I ended up getting the powdered buttermilk after going to two stores.
The receipe said either Crisco or butter. Hmmmm...I'm thinking butter would be better. Well...I got all this together and now after seeing the texture and taste...I should have used the Crisco.
Way back then they probably used lard. Now, I'm not too happy it's not like I remembered. Looks like they got baked in the squat!
Not everything turns out like our memory of it. Hopefully, new memories can be created that are lasting ones.
We are all going through some tough times this year. It's nice to know there are good people around us that are helpful and kind.
I'm thankful for my family, faithful readers, clients and friends as we go into the holiday season. I enjoy providing information on real estate and items of interest for you each week about Kentucky.
I appreciate that you take a little time to stay in touch and call or email me with ideas or chat about real estate or just to talk.
I truly value your loyalty, trust and friendship.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Hi Lizette;
I am pretty sure you will do fine, I am also very thankful for my family, faithful clients and friends as we go into the holiday season. Have a great day Lizette.
Lizette- Seems like everyone has a special recipe that they make better than anyone else. I am sure you will get better results next time. Happy Thanksgiving.
Try again - you'll get it right :) (sometimes Grandma's leave an ingredient out of the written recipe so that nobody else will ever get them just right!)
The question is not how it looks, but how it tasted. Sounds delicious, Lizette.
Sometimes those old time recipes just don't stack up to the memories we have .
Lizette, like with the recipe in your story, much about life is trial and error and finding out what REALLY works like the Crisco over butter. We find that out about our good friends too, that stick around and support us.
Lizette--I know what you mean about how disappointing it is when something doesn't live up to the memories. At least the memories haven't faded. Hope you had a wonderful day!
Anthony - I am hoping for a good outcome too!
Kim - I wish I would have figured it out before I was deep in the project!
Gene - I was thinking that too!
Missy - It did taste pretty good...so I got half my memory! LOL
Bob & Carol - Yeah, the good ole days are always better than now.
Gary - Exactly, but I wish my intuition would have saved me!
Teri - Yes, it has always been a good memory. Maybe part of the fun was trying to recreate the muffin.
Hey Lizette - it doesn't look so bad! I love anything lemon :) (I've got a memory of my Nana's Easter Pie....and after many years, I've almost got it perfected, lol)
I am sitting here with a big cool aide grin. I bet you'll get a little bit closer each time you try, sweetie. Keep trying. It stirs Granny up in your heart. Love always, C.
Lizette,
You are so right about things being hard to re-create. I tried to re-create my grandmothers recipe and could never get it down but, I do have some wonderful memories that were created yesterday.
Those muffins sound fabulous, and the memories are most precious of all! I consider myself thankful and blessed with a friend like you.
Hi Lizette,
Oh Grandma's cooking.....how I miss that! But do you think that anything we make that our Grandma's use to make would ever be as good? I feel that when I make things grandma use to make they never taste as good. Maybe because her's was made with a little extra love?!! That's what I always tell my kids or husband when I make something they think it is good and they ask what is in it I always tell them an extra special ingredient called love! I love lemon anything! I made some lemon poppyseed cookies the other day and boy were they good.
