I have something to sell.
You have something I want.
You want what I have.
It's a deal!
For almost 5 years, I have published a newsletter. I LOVE KENTUCKY NEWS!
It has really taken off this year, because I expanded into iContact to publish. Now it's connected though my websites and blogs.
More and more people read it and forward it on. Thousands read my email newsletter each week.
I decided to sell ads and design the link buttons for businesses I would approve of to be in the newsletter.
With our economy going into recession, we all have to do what we have to to survive.
We still have to keep our name out there and advertise so clients don't forget us. Every business is like that.
So....I sold some ads, then I came across a few businesses that would like to participate, but have something I wanted. Most were services I already used.
We worked out a trade. Barter.
A few, I traded for were home security, professional lawn care, air time on a radio show and a fabulous vacation in a chalet! I'm thrilled!
Value for value it was an even trade.
I have other businesses in mind I want to talk with. If only my bank would advertise and pay my mortgage! That one may not work.
In some of the trades I designed a link to my blog from their websites:
It's exciting to see this help those people get clients that they would not have reached. As more and more subscribers read my newsletter and blogs it all grows as we pay it forward to help each other. I can reach their clients as they forward on the newsletter and they can connect with mine.
We might be in a recession, but our world is getting better because we can all still stay in business and thrive.
We are actually getting business and gaining new clients through my newsletter! Cool!
A website for other services to barter is Barter.net

Lizette,
This is a great idea na d maybe I need to check into something on this line also. Thank you f or sharing!!
I really need to get a newsletter going--maybe your post will inspire me to figure out the best way to do one. Not sure where to find the time with the other things I am starting up.
Very cool and so happy to see it succeeding for you. What a great idea, especially for the like kind gifts and bartering. Brilliant.
i started a website earlier this year doing the same thing. I think it will be a very profitable side venture for a long time. Good luck and stay sharp.
Check out http://www.yadkinvalleynews.com It is still and probably always will be growing.
Don - It couldn't hurt. I'm thankful I started this years ago to give it time to grow readership.
Susie - The way things are going...we can't spend all our time on the Internet not making money. I've not made a dime out of all the social conecting online.(Twitter,Facebook, Myspace, LinkedIn, Plurk, Cre8Buzz, etc)It would be nice if referrals were flowing in from all this wasted effort.
Missy - I do love the bartering now. Saving me money and having fun too.
HRG - Good for you! Keep up the good work.
Great thinking of getting more income on the side...
Hi Lizette,
I like the way you think and do business!! I checked out your Kentucky New Letter and it is great you are one smart cookie!
Tim - It is good extra income that helps keep the business going.
Trace - Thanks! I try to make the newsletter fun and help clients too.
That is a great idea. I used to own a local magazine, and I regularly did the same thing,
Great idea, Thanks for sharing.
Have A Great Day
Very Wise, It is good to be this focused on an area often overlooked.
Erica - I should have done this a long time ago. I just didn't take the time to share it with other businesses. It's a good way for us both to get new clients.
Doris - Thanks for stopping by! Happy Thanksgiving!
Carl - Thanks! I'm glad I finally asked these businesses to join with me in the newsletter.
Wow Lizette, what a great idea! I think we always need to be open for new ideas to market ourselves - and, if we can make money along the way, so much the better. ;-)
I am so glad to hear that you are getting so much interest and some goodies for yourself out of your barter!
Teri - It's always a bit slow in the holiday season for me.This adds up and makes cents!
Cristal - I think I finally decided to make a business of a good thing.
It's a great win-win if you find an appropriate business to barter with.
Erica - Especially if you already pay for their services.
Hi Lizette, What a cool idea. It makes perfect sense and everyone (including the readers of the newsletter) benefits. Your creativity is inpiring! Cheers, Harley
Harley - We have to do whatever we can right now to generate income and help others do the same. Happy Thanksgiving!
yES... especially great if it's a business you can work with and trade items you'd use normally! When I had the magazine I'd trade for restaurant gift certificates a lot!
Erica - I often wonder why I waited so long to get started on the ads!
