Life...Fun and Kentucky Real Estate

Amazing Midnight Cereus Blooms!!!

Take a look at my Midnight Cereus!  It blooms only at night around midnight. The bloom will wilt by sunrise unless it is overcast like it was this morning.

Snapped my lucky pic. It smells like a gardenia. The bloom is as large as your hand and the inside looks like a spider!

More about this plant.

Wow!  Quite simply gorgeous.  Is there any particular reason it blooms only deep in the night?  A bat for a pollinator perhaps?

It's really an odd plant. The bloom has a mind of it's own! haha

Hi Lizette,

I just noticed your cereus blossom.  When I lived in the desert in San Diego county I had one of these growing in my front yard.  People would follow their noses from up to 1/4 mile away.  It took me a long to figure out what it was because, as you know, the blossoms close up as soon as the sun comes up.

You're lucky to be in horse country in KY.  I hear Kentucky is a great state to retire in!

Gorgeous!  I love "different" plants and flowers.  This one is very unique, I can smell it all the way here in NJ!

Hi, Lizette -- what a great photo -- and interesting that it blooms when other plants (and the people who admire them!) are asleep
