Lunch at Keeneland Sales costs a mere 3.7 Million!

Lunch at Keeneland Sales costs a mere 3.7 Million!

Well...not exactly! My lunch was $4.00 but for Mr. O'Byrne it was 3.7 million!

Imagine having a delicious lunch and in the room next door a live auction is underway at Keeneland Sales. What is up for sale is a beautiful Kentucky thoroughbred colt.

The bidders seem to be hidden because it's hard to tell who is bidding.I swear they must bid with their eyes by blinking because I don't see anyone scratching their nose or raising a finger. Then suddenly as the bid is going up $200,000 a lick... it ends at 3.7 million! Sold! Number 432 to Demi O'Byrne, bloodstock agent for John Magnier's Coolmore Stud.

His rival bidder was Texas-based owner Clarence Scharbauer Jr. The prize was the gray son of Unbridled's Song.In his pedigree included legendary stakes winners: Unbridled, A.P.Indy, Alydar and Seattle Slew. What a fabulous bloodline! More on the story and video link here.

I know many people come to Keeneland in Kentucky to watch horses race, but to me the Keeneland Sales are the most exciting.

Have a nice lunch and watch people spend BIG money. AHHHHhhhh...What a life!

I LOVE KENTUCKY!

David - This might be one you will hear of next year as a Derby contender if he playes his cards right.

Lizette--Too bad that they were bidding on horses and not houses. Especially if you could have been the representive for the sale. That would be a nice commission! :) Sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon!

Lizette:

FYI, many auction bidders do wink their eyes to bid.  I am an auctioneer.  There are many subtle ways of bidding without anyone else knowing it.

Those race horse sales are very exciting!!!!

Lizette, I would have loved that!  I've been to auctions but they were for furniture, not horses!  I bet you had a blast :)

Teri - Too bad houses are not selling like that now. That would be fantastic!

Mike - I really find that amazing about the eye blink for a bid at that high a price. Auctions are so exciting!

Carole - You wold find this world amazing! There is nothing like it anywhere.  You need to come visit. It's not Paris...but a close second! lol

Holy cow!  That is one expensive pet!  Makes you feel a bit better about your $4.00 lunch :)

Leah - You are right! I was thinking that even on a good day in real estate I still can't afford those prices. The opening bid starts around $25,000 on some of them.

So Lizette...what did YOU get for your $4 lunch? I mean, besides the company of someone with a taste for a really expensive horse!!
