Lexington KY - Keeneland Sales 2010 - Keeneland Race Track
Lunch at Keenland Sales costs 3.7 million!
Well...not exactly! My lunch was $4.00 but for Mr. O'Byrne it was 3.7 million!
This happened one September, but imagine having a delicious lunch and in the room next door a live auction is underway at Keeneland Sales 2010. What is up for sale is a beautiful Kentucky thoroughbred colt.
The bidders seem to be hidden because it's hard to tell who is bidding.
I swear they must bid with their eyes by blinking because I don't see anyone scratching their nose or raising a finger.
Then suddenly as the bid is going up $200,000 a lick... it ends at 3.7 million!
Sold! Number 432 to Demi O'Byrne, bloodstock agent for John Magnier's Coolmore Stud.
His rival bidder was Texas-based owner Clarence Scharbauer Jr. The prize was the gray son of Unbridled's Song.
In his pedigree included legendary stakes winners: Unbridled, A.P.Indy, Alydar and Seattle Slew. What a fabulous bloodline!
I know many people come to Keeneland Race Track in Lexington KY to watch horses race, but to me the Keeneland Sales 2010 will be the most exciting.
The sales will continue until September 26th.
Have a nice lunch and watch people spend BIG money. AHHHHhhhh...What a life!

Liz - couple of things:
1. Thanks for weighing in the other day with advice I requested via email. I put together a page and half plan that I'm working thru, and I'm going to spread my wings and fly so much higher than just REO.
2. This auction stuff sounds like fun, and a good way to see some fine horses!
Lizette - I think we are in the wrong business. I wonder what the profit is. I wonder if there is as much stress. I wonder if there are consumers fighting back. Sorry I got carried away.
Wow -- what a beautiful horse. The price tag is incredible... Thanks for taking us into this world for a glimpse.
Liz,
Isn't crazy? it seems a beautiful horse that in a few years these 3.7 Million shall dissapear but when you have plenty of money it seems that you don't care :) LOL
Lizette:
That was one expensive lunch for Mr. O'Byrne. I hope he has gotten his money's worth with that beautiful horse.
I think I will stick to the $4.00 lunches. Although that colt is truly a prize.
It's a blast to hang out at the sales. I may have to head back there today for some lunch and pictures.
Demi has no problem spending that money! I could tell you some stories...Ken, there is a ton of stress, but it's much like real estate. You can go from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows in no time flat!
And yes, they all have special ways of bidding so as to not be "seen." A flick of the toe, a pull of the ear, a tap of the finger. There are some great bid spotters in the business who know who and what to watch for.
Have some fun for me! I've been missing all the sales this year for one reason or another. Sure do miss it!
Lizette - It's amazing what people will pay for a horse.
