Life comes at you fast....NOW AT 70 MPH!!!

 

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

We can finally drive 70 MPH on I-75 & I-64!

496 signs will be changed today. I can remember back to the old days when it used to be 70. The speed limit was reduced to 65 to save lives (They said). One can only ponder if there have been too many lives saved at that speed and now it is prudent to raise it again to 70. Hmmmm...

I drive this road almost everyday and I know that most drivers have been driving along at 70 to 80 MPH for a long time. Now, I wonder how this will affect the speeders and the State Troopers. How much leeway will they give us? 

Maybe it will be a good deal that I will be able to get to my destination a few minutes earlier. Eventually, I will figure out that I can leave the house a few minutes later and I won't be getting to my appointment with minutes to spare.

Yes, the old-timers can recall when the speed was 70 and it only seems like a blip in history for the amount of time it was 65. Those were the good old days... where life came at you fast...and now, will do so again!

I always drove 70+mph in KY :)

I remember when I was working for a KY company but living down here in SoFla... I flew into Louisville to see my family and rented a car.  I drove down 64 to get to Lex and caught myself going over the Kentucky River at 90Mph... nothing for I-95 or the Turnpike but KY State Troopers don't like it as much... and they like to hide!

Lizette--Don't be expecting too much leeway...When 35 went to 70 mph, the leeway was zero!

David - You speed demon! Yeah...I know where all those Troopers hide too!

Teri - I hope that's not the case! I usually stay around 74. I'm not going to be happy traveling slower. :~(

70 works for me!!  Well...in the slow-er lane anyhow!!  I am an admitted SPEED-er!!  Are there any policemen on ACTIVE RAIN???  I would love to speed my way to the top here too...  JUST KIDDING!!  THEN...who would I chase?!?!

WOW, I HAD NO IDEA YOU WERE A SPEED DEAMON, LOL... MAKES YOU WONDER WHY THE CHANGE, REMEMBERING BACK WHEN THE EARLY 70'S REDUCED THE SPEED LIMITS TO SAVE ON GAS.  D0ES MAKE ONE QUESTION THIS ONE.

Lizeet, I don't think there's anyplace (that I'm aware of) in New York where you can drive that fast---we have a 55 "saves lives" but it's totally ignored anyway.  They get you by radar now, you don't even know that you've gotten a ticket!

Carole - What I liked about New York was that I didn't need a car. Who can afford to park one? Do  taxis drive that fast?

With the high price of gas and the ecco friendly world they will probably turn it back to 55 soon.
