SKYPE... SKYPE, BABY! On WKYT TV NEWS With Sam Dick
My handyman calls me "Primetime" as a nickname now. He is teasing me about WKYT TV being at my home office to film a news segment on using Skype for my Lizette Realty business in Central Kentucky.
News Anchor, Sam Dick contacted me earlier in the month after he had Googled "Skype Kentucky "and came across an Activerain post I had written on using Skype in my business.
I use Skype's Internet phone service to call out of state clients and I love the video conferencing with other Skype users. I no longer have a dedicated home phone line. I cut the cord to save $500 a year. I only pay $29.95 a year for Skype.

This has really been great to use for business in Lizette Realty.
I see clients or consultants and they can see me. I can show them houses, pictures and documents.
After numerous emails and phone calls, Sam arrived with a cameraman to film me using Skype.
I figured it would be a good time to get my office clean and clear off my desk!
Now I can't find anything! LOL
The WKYT TV News segment is scheduled to be aired on April 1st at 5PM.
I will come back to update this if this changes. I hope it's not an April Fool's joke!

Lizette--Will you remember your friends when you become famous? Congrats on the additional exposure for your business! :)
Sounds really cool. I have heard of Skype before and have witnessed it but I have yet to take the leap to dabble into it myself. Today seems like a good day.
Teri! You are sooo funny! I could never part with my friends! Now I can see them when I talk on the phone!
David - It's a good day for you to try something new! Good luck!
Great idea-- I will add it to my tool box of tricks
How exciting! I just signed up for Skype and I still need to learn more about it. Apparently there is a lot more to it than I realize.....I will check out your posts and see what I can find out.
Wow... I feel I am in the stone age with my "Thow a rock with a postcard" through the window mentality...
Very nice, I like the Skype thing!
Lizette, is there anyway you can steal get a copy of the tape on here for us to see it. If you do not know how put it in your post, let me know and I will guide you on how to post here.
~ Life is Good
Been using skypw for years. one of the best values in voip.
thanks
tony
Hi Lizette,
How cool is that, you are a star! :)
Lizette: You're not foolin' us are you? That date is April Fools Day. :)
I use Skype all the time for personal communication (great way to see the grandkids or my daughter, who lives in Texas), but I haven't found many consumers who are "up" to trying it. I definately think it's a tool which will become just as common place as computers in the near future.
I think "PrimeTime" is a GREAT nickname! I have checked into Skype and a local business friend uses it, but perhaps it deserves a little more attention on my list of stuff to do. Thanks!
Lizette,
My wife and I have been playing with Skype as a video phone for about 3 weeks. Every one with high speed Internet should get an account, they're free if you're only calling Skype users. We use Magicjack for our "land line" ($20 / year) and Skype for video calls. Free accounts don't get a number you use your e-mail address instead. We're learning and enjoying it.

Hi Lizette: I just wanted to clarify one thing. In your post you stated that you pay $29.95 for Skype. Some readers will assume that is a monthly fee when in fact that is the YEARLY FEE - yes that is only $2.50 per month with all your long distance included! My Skype id is nationalcreditfixers!
:)
Eric - It will work well in your box of tricks!
Ann - Good for you. let me know how you like it.
Luke - If you decide to use Skype you will see how easy it is to use.
Roy - I should be receiving a tape of the show. I might be calling you for help! LOL
Tony - That's great! Don't you just love it?
Lizette - Congrats on the tv interview. Pretty cool! Are you going to post any of this on A/R? Just curious.
Congratulations /. .your business will flourish with innovative tools such as Skype
Suzanne - Yes! I think it's pretty cool! Girl...you are the star!
Kat- I hope it's not a joke! LOL
Margaret- I think the Oprah show is doing a great job in promoting Skype and it will make it more mainstream. There was also a new video phone featured as a task on Donald trump's Celebrity Apprentice. I bet he bought stock or the company.
Lisa - We all give each other nicknames around here. It's quite a joke. Hope you try Skye soon!
Bill- I tried using Magic Jack but it wold not work correctly if you use an aircard instead of a DSL line. I sent it back. I love my Sprint aircard and don't use a home DSL line anymore. Thus ...more savings!
Connor - I was using the 3.8 version then switched prior to 4.0 before filming. No problems so far.
Matt - Thanks for pointing that out. I went back to change it.
Robert - Yes, I plan to...unless i look bad! LOL
Fernando - I think so too. Don't you just love all the technology we have at our fingertips to help clients?
I use Skype all the time for years now and have blogged about it. If you have cut the phone line, what do you do for fax?
I did cut the dedicated fax line. It is not used nearly as much as I used to use it. A lot of waht we used to fax is now done on line.
You're clearly a 21st Century marketer! Am going to check out all your links. Appreciated these tips.
Hi Lizette~ Way to go girl! How exciting is that? I have skype but very rarely use it as my clients don't seem to prefer it. I guess western Ky is a lot different than central Ky where you are.
hmmmmmmmm, guess I will have to Google this and find it what the heck all the fuss is. Surprsingly it sounds real cheap.
Lizette ~ Congratulations on your success using Skype and saving money as well. I use Skype to talk to my relatives across the country. I need to start using it for work as well. I will be looking for your "prime-time" news segment and see what I am missing!
Lizette,
What a great way to get some free promotion! I'm looking forward to an update.
Mike in Tucson
Lizette,
That's great, congratulations!
I have only used Skype on a handful of occasions but I have found it to be a good tool.
That is awesome. Congratulations on this.
Exposure Exposure Exposure...
You mean.... Your office isn't always that tidy?
Go figure
Lizette, Hope the instant celebrity status don't go to you head. LOL, but I do know you will get massive business because of this, Make sure you save a video of this, post it on youtube, tubemogul etc... and use the video to promote yourself to your clients!
Never thought to use skype for this. I've been meaning to try it and your blog just gave me the needed push. Hope the video gets posted here.
Primetime, indeed! Great job on the TV spot! I use Skype for staying in touch with relatives, but have not incorporated it into my business plan yet...
Yea, I knew this was coming am so glad you shared it. The power of blogging the long tail. We need to chat one night on Skype, I haven't been on in awhile so hit me up.
Hey Lizette ~ Congratulations on the FREE press and for being a Skype pioneer!
Right on. I have been skyped into investor meetings in California while sitting at my office. Skype not only saves money on phone cost, I love the video feature. Try this idea, if your sellers don't have a web cam give them one and have Skype meetings with your sellers. It's green to not use gas!
Newsletters, radio, and now TV. When's the book deal coming out? Remember I want an interview for your mgr.
I'm completely hooked! You had me at TV! I would love to get into radio and Skype. I just haven't arrived their yet on my journey - but I'm working on it. Congratulations! Your posts are so much fun to read. When you become famous (well, I think you are already), throw a shout out to all us 'rainers! Have you been booked on Letterman yet? Cheers...
Wow! this is another runaway train post!
How did I score two features in one day! Thank you AR gods!
Thanks to all my friends with ALL THE NICEST COMMENTS AND SUPPORT!
Hi Lizette -- Congrats! How do you make tons of local phone calls? Skype or your cell? If I used my cell for all my personal/business local calls, it would get very expensive, or does Skype give you free local calling? I'm trying to figure out the same thing, and you've already done it. Also, how do you fax? e-Fax totally from the computer?
Super neat! Thanks for sharing!

Skype is also coming out with an app for the iphone tomorrow for free.
I must admit I found your last comment funny where you said that you hope its not an April fools joke.
Congratulation! Good for you.
Skype -- something I've got to look into as well. Sounds like a great tool.
Cool but can you actually use that in a office or just a home office. We need more info on how that works. Maybe a post for a later day.
Great info...
Way to go Lizette! I too am a big fan of Skype.
Lizette - I've had skype for about a month now. I use the video calling it is the best talking to family you don't get to see that often.
Lizette: You are going to become the Skype Girl ! Congratulations on al new exposure and new business that will soon come your way from the news clip
Lizette, congrats on being famous now! I love Skype. We used it to communicate with our daughter when she was out of the country. We got to talk, and to see each other at the same time. What a blessing! And best of it, it's FREE!!!

Congratulations ma'am on the Feature and on the news segment.
That is terrific that you got so much publicity. I just started using skype's video conferencing and really enjoyed it.
Congrats on the exposure "Primetime"! I used Skype when we first opened our office and I still use it at my home office.
Lizette,
If they happen to put it online, you will have to supply a link to the segment.
Congrats on your success! I'm checking out Skype now.
Great stuff Lizette, and glad you got the exposure. They say Skype is going to work soon on the iPhone's data network (the WiFi one??). Great way to save money. Great for international calls too.
Lizette,
I have an unlimited national calling plan and I can call regular phones, but the quauality is not always there. How many times people would tell me that the sound is terrible, howmany times, I had to hang up and then call from a regular phone.
I am not happy with Skype. Hear about Magic Jack, some praise some not, do not really know.
Been thinking about trying out Skype or magicjack. Thanks for the info.
Hey Lizette, I haven't been around too much and missed this news. Great story and great press! I look forward to seeing the clip.
Update:
There was a rumor that the segment might get bumped if University of KY announced it's new coach on Wednesday. I think everything is still a "go" because he was announced on Tuesday evening. I have my fingers crossed that it won't be rescheduled.
For those of you that were thinking of using Magic Jack, I tried to but it will not work correctly if you use an aircard for your DSL.
My G1 T-Mobile phone has always had the application"iScoot "to access Skype for use away from my computer. I guess the Iphone is catching up! LOL
How much fun is that ;-) I am looking into the new skype for iphone.
