Prospect, KY - Ohio River

Memorial Day 2007

This picture was taken off Rose Island Rd. in Oldham Acres over in Prospect,KY. Some friends have a river house that backs up to the Ohio River. This is the wharf they built  where you can view beautiful sunsets.  My evening there on the dock provided just the inspiration to write my Kentucky newsletter. Whenever I am there, it reminds me of Key West! The view of the water and boats is amazing!

1st Time Kentucky HomeOWNERS, Karen & Clay

Becoming home owners was something my boyfriend Clay and I always thought would come much later in our lives. We were sure that we would have to wait forever to have "all our ducks in a row" to even starting looking for a home. After meeting Lizette by chance at an open house holiday function, then again at Clay's business, For the Love of Dogs Bakery, we knew that Lizette was who we would call when we started looking for a home.

Lizette was so excited when we called and let her know that we were ready to start searching for a home. Our budget wasn't very big but she reminded us several times that we would find something we really liked, that we just needed to have patience. We expected the process to take about 6 months but we closed in less than 4 months after finding a great home with a big back yard for our chocolate lab Chloe.

Not only is Lizette a great real-estate agent but she is also a good friend who was truthful and honest throughout the entire process of buying a home. She was always quick to write, e-mail or call us on the phone when we had any questions. I don't think I could have asked for a better experience in buying a home.

The Kentucky Robins That Moved Right On IN

Every spring here in Kentucky, I fight with the mommy Robins. They try to build their nests in the hanging baskets if I put them out too early. This year I thought I had outsmarted them because I held off on buying the ferns till the first of May.

I have a wreath on the front door that one Robin tried to put some twigs in to get it started. Those I threw out and I thought she had given up.

One day I noticed a bird flying off my wreath again but this time when I took a closer look I found a whole nest right at the very top.

As I brought a stool out of the house to get a better look I saw it was too late to tear it down...there were 3 little blue eggs inside.

Now, I was committed to waiting it out. This became a job because everyone opens the front door. I became fearful that the door would open too quickly and the mommy would fly into the house.

Finally this fear actually happened when a friend opened the door too fast and there she was flying around and hitting the ceiling in the living room!! That had my heart pumping for a few minutes till we could get both doors open and get her to fly out! Whew! This was starting to be another job!

Now 3 babies(Larry,Curlie & Moe) are getting their feathers and I am patiently waiting for them to learn how to fly so I can have some closure.

As you can see they are not afraid of me at all and will even let me touch their beaks. That's cool!

Yeah...life is sure exciting here at the Lizette Home Office!

Daniel Boone Put Kentucky On the Map

Let me tell you'all a story about a man named,"Boone". Or is it really "Boon"?

There is some confusion over the spelling but Daniel Boone did put Boonesborough or Boonsboro on the map in 1775

while working for the Pennsylvania Company to find new land.

He built the settlement of Fort Boonesborough on the bank of the Kentucky River in Madison County.

More about his fantastic life,

Historical account of his adventures...

Boone lived here till 1792 and saw Kentucky admitted to the union as a state. Litigation arose about the titles of settlers to their lands. Boone, losing all his possessions for want of a clear title, retired in 1795 in disgust into the wilderness of Missouri.

He died on September 26, 1820 at 86.

How To Destroy Your Driveway Without Trying

Back

a couple of winters ago,

I DESTROYED the concrete in my driveway!!

The surface became pitted and later flaked off from an application of salt I used only one time.

I hired someone to seal and save it...

that hasn't worked.

Also, I paid him in advance to cut some lines

in it so it wouldn't crack.

He took the money

and never came back to do the work.

(Old story ...but still a good one.

My Dad used to call those type of people "Jackleg")

So since then it has bugged me

and I will eventually redo my new 3 year old driveway.

There's always something to work on

when you are a new homeowner.

Anyway, as I was doing a little research

I ran across this article on decorative concrete...

10 Driveway Design Ideas

There are also some links for interior concrete floors, countertops and wall finishes there.
